Yenta was a שדכן who wouldn’t take “no” for an answer. She had tried for months to make a שידוך for a rich but spoiled young man who thought highly of himself and rejected all the girls whom Yenta had recommended. Finally, she said “I have just the girl for you. She is beautiful, talented and is the daughter of the Chief Rabbi of Israel. She is the perfect girl for you.” The boy resisted, saying that he is not willing to live in Israel. Yenta assured him that the girl was willing to live in the United States. She continued to praise the girl and her family until the boy finally agreed to meet her. As soon as she left the boy, she made a note in her little book and with a sigh exclaimed: “Half done.”
