Two Jews, one young and one old, were sitting next to each other at a wedding. The young man asked the older man “What time is it?” The older man did not answer. He asked the question again, but there was no response. He tapped on the older man’s shoulder and shouted in his ear: “Perhaps you can tell me what time it is?” This time he received an answer. “Why did I need to ask you three times before you would answer me?” he asked. “Look, it’s like this,” the older man replied. “If you ask and I answer you, it will lead to other questions and answers, and then you will inquire about my family and learn that I have a beautiful daughter and you will want to date her and you will fall in love with her and want to marry her. And to tell you the truth, I don’t want a son-in-law who can’t even afford a watch.”
