We know that יעקב אבינו learned תורה for 24 years in the ישיבה of עבר. Surely, he was a top student. Why then didn’t he get married to the daughter of the ראש ישיבה, rather than מבנות לבן? The answer is that if you have a grandfather (אברהם) who is a חוזר בתשובה, an uncle (ישמעאל) who is a גוי, and a brother like עשו, even if you’re יעקב אבינו, you’re not going to get the daughter of the ראש ישיבה.
