An author presented his manuscript to רבי אייזל חריף for his הסכמה. Night had fallen by the time they finished speaking. The author rose to leave and asked רבי אייזל if he could send his שמש to accompany him. רבי אייזל refused. “I don’t want to be מטריח him unnecessarily,” he said. “If you’re worried about the גמרא which says תלמיד חכם אל יצא יחידי בלילה, מפני מזיקים, I can assure you that you have nothing to be worried about. Take your manuscript with you and when the מזיקים see it, they will leave you alone.”
