The פני יהושע asked why is it that the Torah says וקראתם דרור בארץ לכל יושביה? After all, it’s only the slaves, not כל יושביה who get liberated. He answered: the גמרא tells us that כל הקונה עבד עברי הריהו כקונה אדון לעצמו. Therefore, it is not only the slaves, but also their masters, who are liberated.
