At a Shul meeting to vote on whom to hire as their new רב, there was all but unanimous agreement on picking a particular תלמיד חכם. One member of the קהל strenuously objected and said אף על פי שדעתי דעת יחיד, תהיה הלכה כמותי. The elderly president of the Shul was furious and told the dissenter that he is worthy of being spit at. Insulted, the dissenter took him to a בית דין. On the יום הדין, the דיין asked the president to apologize and be done with the whole matter. The president approached the dissenter and told him: “I’m sorry about what I said. You’re not worthy of being spit at.”
