שבועות ב

The נצי״ב was once standing outside of his yeshiva in Volozshin and heard בחורים inside arguing and giving מכות one to another.  As he opened the door to the בית מדרש, each of the boys immediately took his seat, grabbed a גמרא, and began to study it in all innocence, as if nothing had occurred.  The נצי״ב went over to one of the בחורים and saw that he was supposedly learning מסכת שבועות, when the yeshiva was then actually learning מסכת מכות.  The נצי״ב picked up the גמרא and turned to the דף which said מכדי תנא ממכות קא סליק, מאי שנא דתני שבועות.  Looking at the boy, he said that the גמרא is saying “הלא הלומד זה עתה היה עוסק ב׳מכות׳ ולמה זה עבר פתאום ל׳שבועות׳?”
