Jack had been financially successful but had difficulty parting with a dollar.  To put it simply, he was cheap.  A week before his niece’s wedding, he went to a bargain store to buy a gift.  As he was strolling through the aisles, he noticed what had been an expensive, beautiful crystal vase.  Apparently, someone had dropped it and it was now broken into three pieces.  For Jack, this was an opportunity.  He told the shopkeeper that he wanted to buy the vase and have it giftwrapped and shipped to his niece.  He filled out a gift card and paid $15 for the vase, the giftwrap and shipping and left the store feeling he got a great deal, since his niece would think the vase broke in the mail.  At the wedding, he asked his niece if the gift had arrived.  “Yes, uncle Jack, but, unfortunately, it was in three pieces when it was delivered.”  “What terrible luck,” he replied.  “The postal service is getting worse all the time.”  “It is a shame,” she answered.  “It was so beautifully wrapped.  Each piece separately.”
