R’ מרדכי בנט of Prague was once asked by the Emperor Franz Joseph: “What is the explanation for the statement in the Talmud that if you dream of a kettle it’s a sign of peace?”  רב מרדכי explained:  “Fire and water are opposites who fight each other and there will never be peace between them.  However, it is possible to create peace between them by putting the water in a kettle above the fire.  The fire will keep burning and the water will not extinguish its flame.  Thus, it is the kettle that brings peace between them.”
