Members of a shul were caught by their Rabbi playing cards on שבת.  “What do you have to see for yourselves?” the Rabbi demanded.  One man responded:  “I’m sorry, Rabbi, but I simply forgot that it’s שבת.”  Another said: “I’m ashamed to admit it, but I simply forgot that gambling is prohibited on שבת.”   The Rabbi then turned to the third man and asked him “What’s your excuse?  No doubt you forgot something too.”  “Yes, Rabbi,” he answered. “I forgot to pull down the shades.”
