A רב once observed: “שבת is מכבד אורחים. On the ימים טובים, it honors them with תפילת שחרית and מוסף. It is therefore surprising that when ראש השנה falls on שבת, the שבת doesn’t permit the שופר to be blown. The reason is that the שבת holds that it’s not מחוייב to honor a guest who is a blowhard.”
