An עני approached a distant relative a few days before ראש השנה and asked if he could help him out with הכנסת כלה. When the man hesitated, the עני said “You know, we are related.” “Related?” the man shot back. “Our great, great grandfathers were related, but that goes back many generations.” The next morning, the two men were in the בית כנסת, when the עני heard his distant relative call out רבונו של עולם, זכור ברית אברהם. He tapped on the relative’s shoulder and whispered in his ear: “What kind of response do you expect to get from a plea like that? אברהם goes back many, many generations. He’s too distant a relative for you to expect to get any kind of consideration on the basis of the relationship.”
