Benji Gross’s Bar Mitzvah was coming up on שבת with a reception afterwards on his parents’ lawn. Mrs. Gross sent out invitations but somehow forgot to send an invitation to their neighbors, Mr. and Mrs. Rubin. Realizing the mistake, Mrs. Gross went to the Rubin house to apologize and asked them to please come. “It’s too late,” Mrs. Rubin said. “I’m not coming.” “What do you mean too late, it’s only Tuesday,” Mrs. Gross said. “It’s too late,” Mrs. Rubin insisted “because I’ve already prayed for rain.”
