It is often the case that Jews will accept something only after the גויים do. As one דרשן observed: בשוב ה׳ את שיבת ציון – When ה׳ said that we should return to ציון, we were כחולמים. We dismissed it as a fantasy. אבל עז יאמרו בגויים, but when the גויים began saying it, הגדיל ה׳ לעשות, we also began to believe.
