The Shul President’s daughter was very sick. He instructed the רב to immediately gather a מנין to say תהילים. Unfortunately, the רב couldn’t find any of his regulars, but concerned about the girl’s health and how her father would react if his instruction wasn’t followed, the רב managed to put together a מנין of the town’s גנבים. They said תהילים and the girl’s condition improved. The President was grateful, but asked “How did it ever occur to you to put together a מנין of גנבים?” The רב replied: “When the doors of Heaven are locked, is there anyone as capable of unlocking them as a גנב?”
