As a חזן was praying on one of the חגים, one of the מתפללים noticed that he wasn’t saying anything or even moving his lips during the תפילת הלחש. Whispering to the man in the seat next to him, he said: “Apparently, he only prays the תפילה for which he gets paid. Since there’s no payment for the תפילת הלחש, he doesn’t bother to say it. It’s also like the משנה in מסכת שבת says: החזן רואה היכן תינוקות קורין אבל הוא לא יקרא.”
