The נודע ביהודה needed to raise a large sum for a community need.  A philanthropic member of the community accompanied him as he went from door to door.  When they neared the home of a very wealthy man, the philanthropist suggested to the נודע  ביהודה that they pass it by because it did not befit the כבוד of the רב to lower himself and speak with such an arrogant and disrespectful man.  The נודע  ביהודה rejected the suggestion, observing that when a human being, the most exalted of HaShem’s creations, needs milk he gets down on his knee in front of the בהמה.
