During a break at a conference they were attending, a Conservative Rabbi, a priest and a minister shared highlights of their experiences. The priest told of being lost and stranded in a snowstorm so strong that he couldn’t see even a foot in front of him, when, miraculously, while the storm continued to batter the whole city, he could see his home 50 feet away. The minister told a similar story of being caught on a small boat in the middle of the ocean when monster waves came crashing down, all but capsizing his vessel. Miraculously, while these enormous waves continued to rage all around, there was absolute calm surrounding his boat and he was able to make it safely to shore. Finally, the Rabbi told his story. One שבת he was coming home from shul, when he saw a wad of $100 bills lying in the gutter. He wished he could just take the money, but it was שבת and he couldn’t even touch it. Miraculously, while it continued to be שבת everywhere else, for the ten feet around him it was Sunday.
