A רב who was disliked by his קהילה was told that he needed to find a position elsewhere. The רב responded that על פי דין תורה it was אסור for him to do as they asked. Surprised, they asked him to explain. “You know,” he said, “that all other communities want me to remain here and be their רב and it is only this קהילה that wants me to leave. And the דין is יחיד ורבים, הלכה כרבים.”
