A poor בחור ישיבה in Europe ate his meals at the home of a בעל הבית קמצן. Every day, including שבת, he was served potatoes. One day, he approached the בעל הבית with a question: “What ברכה do we say on potatoes?” Stunned to hear such a question from the ישיבה בחור, the בעל הבית said “What kind of question is that? מברכים בורא פרי האדמה על כל מיני ירקות היוצאים מן האדמה.” “Yes. That I know. But what ברכה do we say על מין ירק שיוצא מן האף?”
