A רב once met up with a Jewish רשע, who was מחלל שבת and ate טריפות, and in addition was מלשין on his fellow Jews. The רב told him: “You know, one day you will be sued by the dogs.” “You don’t say?” the רשע responded. “What do I have with dogs? What have I done to them?” “You’re stealing from them,” said the רב. “There is a מקרא מפורש which prohibits eating בשר טרפה and commandsלכלב תשליכון אותו. So you are eating their food.” Smiling, the רשע answered: “Perhaps I’m a כלב and I’m eating my own food.” “Well,” the רב told him, “you should be aware that the מכילתא explains that the טריף meat is the reward given by הקדוש ברוך הוא to the כלבים because ולכל בני ישראל לא יחרץ כלב לשונו. And you’re trying to have it both ways: on the one hand, you eat טריפות; on the other, you’reחורץ לשון על בני ישראל. So you certainly aren’t among the dogs who deserve to be rewarded. And therefore, the dogs will sue you and be entitled to judgment.”
