On חול המועד פסח, a sad looking man came to the רב, complaining that mice have gotten into the room where he stores his מצה and they’ve been nibbling away at it.  “I have a small house,” he told the רב. “I don’t have a safe place to store the מצה.  What should I do?”  Thinking for a moment, the רב told him to return home and place some of the אפיקומן before the mice. “Is that a סגולה?” the man asked. “Yes,” the רב answered.  “הרי אחרי אפיקומן אכילה אסורה.”  Surprised, the man asked: “But רבי, do the mice know דינים?”  The רב replied: “They certainly do. Two weeks ago, they ate my שולחן ערוך.”
