The רבי of Ruzhin, רבי ישראל פרידמן, often hummed, singing בם, בם. A מתנגד mocked him and asked why he did it. The רבי replied: “The תורה says ודברת בם.” Several weeks later, the רבי saw the מתנגד and heard him humming the same tune and singing בם, בם. “Why are you humming בם, בם?” the רבי asked. The מתנגד answered: “Because, as the רבי said, it’s written in the תורה הקדושה.” The רבי replied: “Yes, yes. But it’s written וצדיקים ילכו בם ופושעים יכשלו בם. It all depends on the כוונה.”
