On יום כיפור, a גנב visited his friend, who was also a גנב. To his surprise, his friend was feasting on a meal. “What’s happened to you?” he asked. “Don’t you realize that today is יום כיפור?” His friend answered: “During the past year, לא חטאתי,לא גנבתי, why do I need to fast?” The visitor responded in amazement: “It doesn’t make sense. You refrain from stealing and sinning a whole year just to eat on one day!”
