Being too smart is not good. The אדמו״ר מגור, the אמרי אמת, noted that in פרשת שמות, the תורה lists the following defects: מי ישום אלם או חרש או פקח או עור. The inclusion of פקח among the mute, deaf and blind as a defect indicates that someone who is “too smart” is a בעל מום. Similarly, in ספר שמואל, the prayer of חנה was ונתת לאמתך זרע אנשים, which the גמרא tells us means לא חכם ולא טיפש and which רש״י explains: לא חכם יותר מדי. Similarly, קהלת states: אל תתחכם יותר.
