An American journalist, an עתונאי, interviewed רבי מאיר שפירא for an article he was preparing on חרדים. The article was highly critical of the חרדי community. After reading it, רבי מאיר שפירא asked: “Do you know where in the תורה there is a reference to עתונאי? It’s in connection with the שעיר לעזאזל, which was led by a designated person, איש עתי, which is to say איש עתון. And why was an עתונאי needed for this mission? Because all of the עוונות and חטאים of בני ישראל were placed on the שעיר לעזאזל, and no one knows recounting the sins of בני ישראל better than an עתונאי.”
