A wealthy miser, who consistently refused to give money for צדקה, died and was immediately grabbed by the מלאכי חבלה, who pushed him to the opening of גיהנום. The miser screamed: “There must be a mistake. I’m supposed to go to גן עדן. Forty years ago I gave a dollar to a famished עני to buy food and thereby saved a life. The מלאכי חבלה checked the records and confirmed that he was speaking the truth. Immediately, one of them ran off to the כיסא הכבוד and asked the רבונו של עולם what to do with this man. השם replied: “Give him back his dollar וילך לעזאזל.”
