Fred and Frank both owned racehorses. One day, Fred, desperate for money, offered to sell a prize horse to Frank for $50,000. Frank took him up on the offer, but when the van arrived at the stable the horse was dead. Frank immediately tried to reach Fred, but he was not to be found. When they finally did meet up a few months later, Frank actually thanked Fred for the horse. Stunned, Fred said “But I heard the horse died.” “Yes, it did” responded Frank, “but I made a lot of money with it.” A quizzical look on his face, Fred asked “How did you make money off of a dead horse?” “I raffled it off. I sold 10,000 raffles for $25 each, with the horse as the prize,” he answered. “Wasn’t the winner upset?” asked Fred. “Sure,” said Frank. “So I refunded his $25.”
