A wealthy miser locked his door before an עני who had stretched out his hand. The עני said to the servant: “Tell the בעל הבית that if he doesn’t let me in, my brother-in-law will come and he won’t be able to keep him out.” Hearing this, the concerned גביר went to the door and asked the beggar who is this brother-in-law whom he will not be able to refuse entry. The poor man replied: “My in-laws had two daughters. I took one as my wife. The מלאך המות took the other one. Therefore, the מלאך המות is my brother-in-law.”
