Sitting at the שבת table, a father asked his young son what he learned about פרשת בשלח that week. The boy responded: “The Yidden left מצרים, went through the desert and reached the sea, but had no way to cross it. They were very frightened because the Egyptian army was pursuing them.  השם made a miracle. The Americans came and built a bridge and sent bombers to attack the Egyptians, saving the Jews.”  Stunned, the father said “I can’t believe that’s what they taught you in cheder.”  “If you don’t believe that,” the son replied, “you surely won’t believe the other version I heard.”
