תענית ו

An עני was at the home of a miserly גביר for the שבת meal. The גביר was served platters of fish, meat and vegetables, but the עני was given tiny portions, the size of a כזית.  After eating his fill, the גביר began singing זמירות של שבת.  “Nu,” he said to his guest, “why aren’t you singing זמירות?” The עני responded:  “Have you forgotten what we say in the תפילה of שבת?  We say: אילו פינו מלא – שירה.”
