R’ מנדלי מקוצק was walking with his colleagues to the edge of town to greet their רבי. As they were on the road, it began raining. The rain turned into a downpour, making the travel very difficult. The רב said נתפלל שיפסיק הגשם. His colleagues responded: but the גמרא tells us that the כהן גדול prayedואל תיכנס לפניך תפילת עוברי דרכים. The קוצקר רב replied: “It says עוברי דרכים, referring to people who go in sinful ways, not those who go on the road to do a מצוה.”
