R’ משה סופר, the חתם סופר, referring to a reform rabbi, said: “The תורה tells us about יעקב אבינו that ויאבק איש עמו. There is a מחלוקת as to whether כגוי נדמה לו or כתלמיד חכם נדמה לו. I never understood how one איש could be perceived by some as a תלמיד חכם and by others as a גוי. But then, when I saw this ‘rabbi’ in his battle against ישראל and its מסורה, I realized that he may appear as a תלמיד חכם to his colleagues, but we know that he is a גוי לכל דבר.”
