Today’s דף quotes רב דימי as saying מלה בסלע משתוקא בתרין, the simple meaning of which is that if a word is worth one סלע, silence is worth two. The גר״א noted that we know that it was because of the חטא מי מריבה that הקדוש ברוך הוא swore that משה רבינו would not be permitted to enter into ארץ ישראל because השם told him to speak to the סלע and instead, משה רבינו hit it. Had he spoken a מלה to the סלע as he was commanded, משה רבינו certainly would have entered the Land and אלדד ומידד would not have been מתנבאים במחנה that משה מת יהושע מכניס את ישראל לארץ. Rather, the two of them would have remained silent, משתוקא בתרי.
