When ר׳ מאיר שפירא was asked to become the רב in גאלינא, there were בעלי בתים who objected, even though they recognized that he was a גדול בתורה.  But after hearing his דרשה, the decision to appoint him was unanimous.  The רב said that there is a רמז for this in מגילת אסתר.  When מרדכי היהודי was גדול ליהודים, he was רצוי only to רוב אחיו.   But after he was דורש טוב לעמו, he was דובר שלום לכל זרעו.
