In a community where it was the custom not to bury a מת without first saying שבח, no matter how sinful he had been, those present for the burial of a lifelong גנב were stumped. They had nothing good to say.  The מת was lying before them and they needed to come up with some שבח so he should have some זכות in the בית דין של מעלה.   Finally, one man said:  “I have it.  מימיו לא הלך ד׳ אמות בלי נטילת ידים.”
