The רב of Pinsk, רבי אלעזר משה הורביץ, was a foe of חסידים.  He asked how could they treat their רבנים as צדיקים, even though they purportedly weren’t עוסקים בתורה.  One חסיד responded: “Even if you are correct, they still are צדיקים גמורים.  They are miracle workers, בעלי מופת, who are גוזר and הקדוש ברוך הוא מקיים.”  The רבי replied: “You are mistaken.  That’s not a miracle. The miracle is when הקדוש ברוך הוא is גוזר and the צדיק is מקיים.”
