R’ יונתן אייבשיץ was recognized by both Jews and non-Jews for his exceptional brilliance.  Wanting to test that brilliance, the king once said to him: “I’m going hunting tomorrow.  I want you to tell me which of the city gates I will walk through when I leave and through which one I will return.”  רב יונתן wrote down the answer on a piece of paper, folded it, and asked the king to seal it with his ring and open it only upon his return.  That night, the king commanded that a new opening be made in the city walls, and the next day he passed through it on the way to and from the hunt.  Upon his return, he called his ministers and opened the note written by רב יונתן.  There he saw written: “המלך פורץ לעשות דרך.”
