We are told in פרשת משפטים that ואלה המשפטים אשר תשים לפניהם.  The letters in the word תשים may be a mnemonic, not in exactly the correct order, for ששת ימים תעשה מלאכה to serve as a רמז that בית דין sits only on weekdays and not on שבת.  The reason for this appears in today’s דף which teaches that at the time of judgment a דיין must feel as if גהינום is open under him.  Therefore, he can’t judge on שבת when even גהינום is at rest.
