When a wealthy miser was asked for צדקה, he gave all kinds of reasons for refusing to give and said “I know that people curse me, but I don’t care. All of their קללות turn into ברכות and I’ve gotten wealthier every day.” The beggar responded: “יתן לך ה׳ אריכות ימים ויגדיל את עושריך כמה וכמה מונים.” The surprised miser asked for an explanation for why he was blessing him. The עני responded: “Since you said that all the קללות turn into ברכות for you, I figured it may work in the reverse as well. So I blessed you,”
