When ר׳ ישראל רוזשינער was asked why he adopted a wealthy lifestyle, he explained: “There are three kinds of חסידים who come to see me: the true חסידים, the בעלי בתים, and those we call קלים. They each give פדיונות, but the פדיונות of the חסידים go to pay for necessities; the פדיונות of the בעלי בתים go for צרכי מצוה; and the פדיונות of the קלים pay for luxuries. And since there are many קלים, there are many luxuries.”
