A רב felt that he was not getting proper respect from his son-in-law. “Everyone else gives me great honor and respect,” the רב said to him. “Why don’t you?” The son-in-law responded: “You can’t bring a ראיה from strangers; not even from כל העולם. Relatives are the best judges. That’s why the פסוק says בקרובי אקדש and only afterwards says ועל פני העם אכבד.”
