A man suffering from terrible stomach pains went from doctor to doctor, specialist to specialist. None of them could figure out what was causing the pain. Eventually, he went to see a young doctor who wanted to know more about his patient. He learned that the man was a תלמיד חכם who had a great פלפול to deliver but didn’t like to speak in public. “The undelivered פלפול is irritating your intestines,” the young doctor declared. “You must deliver it.” At that point, suffering so greatly, the תלמיד חכם listened to the doctor’s order, delivered the פלפול before a large crowd, and was relieved of his pain. Afterwards, when the doctor was asked: “How did you know what he needs to do?” he explained: “I learned in ישיבה and I learned in medical school. This sickness isn’t discussed in medical literature; it’s discussed by חז״ל, who said מילא כרסו ש״ס ופוסקים, תורתו עצורה במיעיו.”
