After 120 years, a תלמיד חכם died. He had performed thousands upon thousands of מצות during his life and thousands of angels came to greet him. Among them was one angel dressed in black. “Who are you?” the תלמיד חכם asked. “Do you remember, the time you lived outside of Eretz Yisroel?” the angel asked. “The גמרא says that is כאילו עובד עבודה זרה. Unless you have a good response, you now must suffer the consequences.” The תלמיד חכם responded, “I have already atoned for that. Every morning, when I davened, I said קרבנות, which are כאילו מקרב קרבן חטאת.
