A רב had many critics in his town, the foremost of which was the רב of a guild of bakers and tailors. When the two of them met at a community affair, the רב of the bakers and tailors asked an outlandish question. The town רב answered it and added יהי רצון שנזכה לביאת משיח צדקנו במהרה בימנו. Puzzled by this response, the רב of the bakers and tailors asked for an explanation. “We find in מסכת שבת,” the town רב responded, “that in the future ארץ ישראל will produce גלוסקאות וכלי מילת. That is to say cakes and clothing will be prepared for us without the need for bakers and tailors. וממילה there also won’t be any need for their רב.”
