Two friends, ראובן and שמעון went to a בית דין over $500. ראובן said that he had lent the money to שמעון and had not been paid back. The רב required שמעון to swear. He did so and was פטור from paying. As they left, ראובן said to שמעון “For $500, you swore a שבועת שווא.” “And you,” שמעון said, “For $500, you are responsible for causing your friend to take a שבועת שווא.”
