Mrs. Rosen was a loving mother. She never laid a finger on her children no matter how they misbehaved. Once, when her son Herbie was especially disruptive in school, the teacher called for Mrs. Rosen to come for a talk. The teacher went through Herbie’s behavioral issues and asked: “Are you going to punish him or not?” Mrs. Rosen looked at the teacher and said: “My Herbie is a good boy. Physical punishment can give him a complex. What we need to do is frighten him.” “What do you suggest?” asked the teacher. “Simple,” Mrs. Rosen said. “The next time Herbie misbehaves, grab the boy in front of him and give him a smack in the face.”
