When the biggest רשע in town died, everyone was happy. There was nothing good that could be said about him, but the town’s מנהג was to always say a הספד before burying a נפטר. There were no exceptions. No one could come up with something positive to say, until one man said “He was better than his son.” That was enough to comply with the מנהג and he was buried. Several years later, the even more evil son died and the townspeople needed to come up with something good to say about this רשע המרושע. The רב stood up and said: “It was in his זכות that his father received a Jewish burial.”
