A visitor to a town’s Jewish community was introduced to the community leaders, including the מלמד of the תלמוד תורה. The visitor looked at him and asked how many children he has. When the מלמד answered 37, the visitor broke out in laughter. Figuring that the גוי didn’t comprehend, the מלמד quickly added: “They’re not only mine. I have a helper.”
