A man collecting for צדקה was told not to even bother approaching a certain wealthy miser. He went anyway and to his surprise received a nice check. When he looked at it closer, however, he saw that it was not signed. “You forgot to sign it,” he said. “No,” the miser responded. “I want to give it בסתר.”
